"Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."
—Jesus (Mt 18)

Our heart is the table — whether for Holy Communion, centering prayer, or breaking bread together at coffee time or potlucks.

Our worship blends ancient & contemporary, drawing from the mystical, contemplative, justice & Creation-honouring traditions of our faith.

We sit in a welcoming half-circle, share reflections from the heart, and seek "the quiet centre."

We gather to pray, connect across generations, feast, meditate, light candles in the darkness — exploring worship practices, spiritual growth & shared learning.

Small but vibrant, we support neighbourhood partners like a queer youth arts group, Urban Aboriginal Ministry, community garden for all, tenant advocates, a community-building organization, and more.

We're the closest church to Vancouver General Hospital, offering a serene sanctuary — an affordable, accessible & adaptable venue for special events, rehearsals & gatherings (Rental info).

Worship
We gather at God's table — where all are welcome

☩ SUNDAY 10:30am Eucharist Service

☩ WEDNESDAY 12pm Centering Prayer
   12:30pm Contemplative Communion

We read from Scriptures, sing sacred songs, share reflections, and partake in Holy Communion.

Our music spans contemporary to traditional, with all of us singing in harmony, no experience needed.

After a short sermon, anyone is invited to share a brief reflection (from the heart, it's not a theology debate).

Find this week's Scriptures online, from the inclusive-language ecumenical New Revised Standard Version. Sunday's Gospel is proclaimed worldwide by Protestants and Catholics alike.

We honour life's milestones: baptisms, weddings, affirming LGBTQ2S+ marriage services, confirmations, funerals & more.

Our Beliefs
At St. Mary Magdalene's, we seek, recognize and honour the coming of God's kingdom of justice and peace — through the messiness of loving relationships with self, others, and the Divine.

We believe that everyone is loved as children of God, who cares deeply for all Creation (Rom 8).

St. Mary Magdalene's is an open, welcoming and creative Christian community always in the process of becoming, while firmly rooted in ancient faith.

Striving for a balance of being and doing — mysticism and action — we discern how to be of service as we joyfully work, pray and eat together.

At St. Mary Magdalene's, we hold reverence for beauty, depth, silence, connection and care for Creation and all people.

In our liturgies and prayers, we enter into the realm of wonder, mystery and profound gratitude — seeking to be transformed and healed, and to bring love and healing out into the world.

We believe in reconciliation and right relationships. God's love is profoundly relational, embodied in the mystery of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — Lover, Beloved, and Love (St. Augustine).

Who are Anglicans?
Wherever you are on your spiritual path, or have journeyed from, welcome!

You don't have to be Anglican to be part of the St. Mary Magdalene's community & worship life.

We value engaging critically using our "God-given reason" — "faith and intellect are partners in the quest for truth."

We're within the episcopal tradition of the Anglican Church of Canada & worldwide Anglican Communion, which proclaims:

"Our unique identity as both ‘catholic and reformed’ allows Anglicanism to act as a bridge church, finding common ground with Roman Catholic & Orthodox churches as well as with Protestant traditions."

We understand the Holy Sacraments to be "an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace." Our church teaches that, during the Lord's Supper, "Christ is truly and really present" in the bread and wine — in a "heavenly and spiritual manner."

In Canada we share full communion with Evangelical Lutherans, Old Catholics & Moravians

"May we who share in this heavenly banquet be instruments of your peace on earth."

"Thou hast fed us … a foretaste of thy heavenly banquet. Grant that this Sacrament may be unto us a comfort in affliction."

— Episcopal Book of Common Prayer (1789)

"To feed on the banquet of that most heavenly food … we are very members incorporate in the mystical Body of thy Son … heirs through hope of thy everlasting kingdom."

— Church of England Book of Common Prayer (1662)

"People will come from east and west, from north and south, and take their places at the banquet in the kingdom of God."

— Jesus (Lk 13)
